When I woke up this morning, I wished for only two things. First, that Punxsutawney Phil would come out and not get scared of his shadow. Second, high school recruit Isaiah Crowell would come out wearing a UGA hat.
That’s right, today was national signing day – Christmas to college football junkies like myself.
We all know that UGA had a rough season this year with losing record of 6-7, 3-5 SEC, including a pitiful loss in the Toilet Liberty Bowl to a team from conference USA. To top it off, eleven players were arrested as was Athletic Director, Damon Evans. I think I speak for every Bulldog fan when I say I was a little more than disappointed in the football program.
However, today may serve as a turning point in a program that has been lacking momentum for the past few years – a small victory. Today, coach Mark Richt recruited the “Dream Team,” including Valdosta tight end Jay Rome, Thomas County defensive end Ray Drew and, most importantly, Columbus running back Isaiah Crowell.
Now the question remains, with the number six recruiting class in the nation, will Richt be able to turn this program around? Will the “Dream Team” prevail? Stay tuned…
In the mean time, check out ESPN’s video of top running back recruit Isaiah Crowell announcing his intention to play at UGA. He may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but the boy can play ball. GO DAWGS!
